Moen 87316SL Stainless Steel Pullout Single Control Kitchen Faucet Review

This says stainless steel, but like all those in this model group, the handle is cheap plastic. It also appears that I will need to replace the entire handle if the screen gets clogged as the design makes the screen an integral part of the handle. Cost for a replacement handle? Almost $90 on Moen's website (as of June 2009). I'm kickin' myself for not checking Amazon first but the old faucet was already removed and we had to get the new one on. (Purchased locally.) As an added surprise, the tubing that connects the handle to the faucet is a woven composite material that has sharp "thorns" along the entire length. (Ask me how I know.)

Considering how long I had to wait to receive these knobs, it was disappointing when I finally received them. They're cute but are so small, you barely notice them when entering the bathroom. I used them on the vanity. You have to bend down and get very close to see the pretty paint job by the artist. I ordered several items from Decoration Sensation. They all seem to be slightly undersized. That's not the impression the online images present.So they're barely decorative or much of a sensation.

These knobs are great and shipped very quickly. I think they are worth the $7 each. My only complaint is that each knob came with 2 differently sized screws (one short, one long) and neither fit my drawer correctly. I will have to cut them down or buy better fitting screws before I can use them correctly.I also seem to have been put on a 'Period Living' catalog mailing list as a result of this purchase (I am assuming it was the knobs, nothing else I buy would fit in the 'period' category).

Danze D404214SS Opulence Single-Handle Kitchen Faucet with Spray, Stainless Steel Review

In reference to the Danze D404214SS Opulence Single-Handle Kitchen Faucet. It looked great so i bought it. Fresh out of the box and installed it had two problems, and eventually as i found out it had four problems.

1. Even when you turn the faucet off it continued to run slightly, unless you really force the handle up. I MEAN REALLY FORCE IT, and it has to be perfectly centered. I MEAN REALLY PERFECTLY!Even so, eventually it will start to run again.
2. Even with the aerator screwed on tight water leaks around and out of the top of the end cap.

The plumber - who is a master plumber chuckled and said...junk. I guess he thought that would make me feel better. I actually called Danze and the rather terse and inconvenienced person (from somewhere far, far to the east of here) said he would send me a "cartridge."
I guess he assumed that I installed faucets for a living. I asked what is a cartidge?, whereupon he said, 'it goes inside". WOW, the clouds parted and sunlight bathed my higher chakras. It was all clear to me.

STERLING CUSTOMER SERVICE DON'T YOU THINK!!

I finally received the cartridge and yes it did correct the leak. A friend of mine has the same faucet and noticed that on his faucet you pull the handle out (away from the stem} to turn it on, while on mine you push it towards the stem. It turns out that not only was the cartridge defective, it was installed upside down! We then corrected the problem...I was quickly becoming a faucet expert!!

Finally the top part of the faucet, the part that revolves, was always very loose. I thought that was the way it was supposed to be, until my friend asked, "why is this so loose". Using a pliers we had to tighten the top screw cap, which in order to keep the faucet correctly tightened required lots of force. enough to mar the finish (yes we did wrap a cloth around it first).

It is regrettable that so many products I have purchased over the past few years are so poorly manufactured. This Danze piece is the last in a long line of ItemsI now refer to as a POC (pronounced "POCK") which is an acronym for Piece Of Crap. It turns out that POCs are most often MICs (Made In China). Actually I have found as a rule all MICs are POCs, but not all POCs are MICs

Don't let the charm and good looks fool you. I will never order a Danze product again. So there it is...FOUR things wrong with a faucet. i can understand four things wrong with a car, four things wrong with the Space Shuttle, but sheesh...a faucet. If your the type that looks for good looks alone, buy it. If on the other hand you seek a deeper relationship, like a faucet that works...avoid this item. The product sucks and so does customer service.

Addendum - I called Danze again to order a new aerator as it continued to leak. I received it and it leaked just the same. I installed some silicone tape around the thread and that helped.

I am beginning to think I was sold a used product...shame on 3rd party Danny K for selling it to me. I will consider carefully next time when ordering from third party vendors through Amazon.

I was so disappointed in Moen because I loved my old pull out Moen which I am now reinstalling.

It has a sprayer, but if I want to use it I have to hit the button each time I turn the water on.For extra flow you hit the back button that opens both spray and flow but because of the baffles, which you can't remove, there is no real pressure to work with.It takes forever to fill anything up.

Suppose you want to take the head apart to clean out grit and stuff.Can't do it.Supposedly the screen further back catches all that but if want to take the head off the snake to clean out the screen, the snake just snicks back down the hole and you have to get under the sink to push it back up.The hose/snake is woven metal, not the nice chrome hose my old one is made of and is rough, the only reason it slides back down easily,is because the neck is so much bigger than the circumference of the hose.

It feels tinny and cheap.I couldn't find a chrome one. It may last a life time but why would I care?

I purchased the TP 1935, but for most people the TP 1934 will do.I build cabinets and everyone wants a different style and size pull or handle.This guide is precision made and can handle all of them.a simple twist of a knob and set the handle width. Twist the other knob and set the set off distance from the edge, top or bottom.Drill your holes and move on.I've dropped it on concrete and didn't faze it.It's a bit expensive but since it can easily handle whatever you throw at it I think it's worth it.
The only negative is the price.If they would knock about $50 off I think they would be a best seller!

I bought this faucet early this year.It hung around, waiting to be installed, for months.Finally, the old one became unusable.My husband wanted nothing to do with installation and was happy to hire a plumber. Well....I wasn't.So, I embarked on my first "plumbing" job.Myfirst (and only) problem was getting the old one out.I called customerservice at Moen and a highly qualified gentleman advised me how touninstall the old faucet.He was competent, articulate, and, best of all,was not the least bit condescending: he gave me the confidence andinformation I needed to complete the job.With the old faucet out, in wentthe new, with great ease.I needed a connection part and was able to findit easily at the hardware store, thanks to my friend at Moen.
The onlyreason I gave this only 4 stars is because of the decreased water pressure. That, of course, is a result of the water saving feature but I find itjust a little too decreased.If I use the spray feature, however, thepressure seems to be normal.The faucet is very easy to use and veryattractive.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this pull. It is very nice and the quality is what you would expect from Amerock. But... if you buy from Woodworkers Hardware through Amazon, you will get a ton of spam from them (WWH) annoucing evry little special they have. In fact, they send each email to you twice.

And though there is a link on every page to opt out of the spam, it is useless. You click on it and indicate your email address and your request to opt out, but the emails continue. I've opted out of every email for 6 months and they still keep coming.

Your best bet is to order by phone and do not give them your email address!

22x54 Fakro Folding Attic Stairs up to 10 Feet Ceiling Height Review

I own the 25" x 54" version of this product and am very happy with it. A couple of differences from your around the corner building supplies store's version:

- the door is thicker and better insulated to prevent drafts from coming into the house and there is a gasket seal to further close things off.
- the stair treads are not as deep, which allowed my contractor to put an insulated door over the top of the stairs (in the attic) futher sealing the attic from my home. This feature is great for insulating your home, but for people with big feet could be a problem going up the stairs.
- On the other hand, the stairs are stronger than standard and are rated for 350 lbs., a plus for larger people with heavy items to carry up to the attic.
- the handrail is a good idea and really does help, especially in light of the small ladder treads.
- the stairs are adjustable up and down against the 'attic door' part, which allows some adjustability of the ladder should their be a change in height required. This would come in handy if you cut the ladder to match your carpeted floor and then later remove the carpeting.
- The fininshed look of these stairs is much nicer than standard attic stairs. There is no string hanging down in our hallway, and no trim around the door, just a nice clean line around the door and it is all painted the same color as our ceiling. Then there is a small round 'keyhole' were a metal rod gets put in to twist open the catch and down come the stairs on springs. The wife loves it!

As a footnote, we went with the 25" x 54" version instead of the 30" x 54" version b/c of the doubling in shipping costs for the larger version. This is due to the size limitation that UPS/FedEx impose. But the size turned out to be fine and we haven't missed the additional 5" in width and I doubt the 22" is much different either.

Finally, the additional space and easy access to it is a great plus for storing all sorts of stuff - a great small project to improve your home. And we added lots of insulation (blown fiberglass insulation, fire proof foam and flashing/rigid insulation to seal off areas around the chimney hole and above our exposed return vents), which apparently allows you to recoup the costs of the improvement due to heating/cooling savings within 3 years. We already feel the difference on our top floor and the heating unit seems to be running less often.

I received the item very promptly but the box was broken and the bottom piece of the sprayer was sticking out of the box about 18". I opened the box and found one of the sprayer nozzles, screen and nut that holds it were laying on the bottom of the box. The screen was smashed. The way the sprayer was packed was not even close to being sufficient. I called Femco and they sent me 3 new screens. They sprayer works fine.

The only reason I chose these knobs were the fabulous price, compared to all of the other prices this was a steal ( I should have known) so I get a phone call from the company stating that the price was incorrect on the web site and that they were actually $2.85 EACH and not for a set of four. This was basically the same price I had found everywhere else...so I gave up and agreed to the price and ordered 3 knobs...well they weren't even worth the $2.85. I paid basically the same price at Home Depot and the knobs were MUCH better quality. I will say that they arrived fairly fast, but for the money I should have just run over to Home Depot and got more.

They look and feel durable, and they're really cute.The only downside is that they are a bit harder to grab a hold of than the normal drawer pulls that came with the dresser.There is no space between the ball and the wood drawer front, so you have to grab the ball itself, instead of grabbing hold behind the drawer pull...don't know if that makes sense, but when you have a baby in your hands, little inconveniences become bigger problems sometimes.

Instead of the standard square notched-out pocket door handle we've all seen and used over the years, Quikset has designed this beautiful set which fits into an already bored door.This looks and operated better than the old style, and has the appearance of the shape of other handles through a room.The button on the end has a spring action that acts as the pull to close the door, and the thumb latch turns smoothly into the receiver to lock the door for privacy.We've had some of these in use for over 4 years with no mechanical issues at all.We built a new house and installed 4 pocket doors.Though this picture is of the brushed nickel finish, we ordered them in the oil-rubbed bronze, which matched nicely with the other hardware in the house.One note about ordering these is that you must make sure from the seller that you are getting either the "privacy" latch, which is for bedrooms and bathrooms with a locking mechanism, or the simple, unlockable one for closets (which has the spring latch for pulling the door, but not the lock).The images may not match what you are looking for, so ask before you buy and get the right ones!

17" Wide Large Pantry Pullout Review

We used this to turn a cubby space in our old victorian into usable cabinet space.The assembly is limited and mostly involves sizing for height and installing the individual shelves.The frame feels a little flimsey until all the shelves are locked in place.The fit and finsih on the shelves is excellent.

I dinged the star for two issues.First off packaging was horrible and when the unit arrived in 3 boxes the shelves were loose with brown paper between them.Needless to say they had been bashed about inside and it broke off several of the clips that hold the shelf rail in place.I fixed 5 of these clips.

Second issue was the shelving spaces are fixed...there is no way to adjust the distance between them and the company spacing is tight. ( it looks nice and airy in the picture but its not in real time. About 6 inches between the shelf rail and the shelf above it)I modified this by redrilling the hole locations and skipping shelves (like they did in the picture between the 2nd and 3rd shelf)Once modified this is an excellent product and I could not build it easily or cheaply so this ...even with the required mods was and excellent starting point.

I would recommend you use this particular design on larger drawers. I had thought about using it on a band sawn box but the handle sticks out too far to make that practical. As such I would not recommend this item if it is for a smaller piece of work.

The customer service is so bad, I challenge anyone to top my story:

After setting up the wagon, I soon discovered that the hinges to the tool box was missing. So one side of the doors would not fully close. Another missing item was the hub cap for one wheel. I didn't feel that was too bad but when the front wheel axle broke,that was it!

I immediately contacted the manufacture in Lake Forest. I am local to their location so I told the rep that I would be willing to drive to their office to pick up a replacement wheel axle. The OnTheEdgeMarketing representative agreed to have me pick up the part thereby eliminating shipping but the rep informed me that he would contact me later in the day to confirm a time. After waiting til the end of day, I contacted the rep again only to hear his apologies and that the part would be instead ready for next day, Friday. Also, I emailed photos showing the break and voicing my concern because I was pulling my kids in the wagon.

Friday came and I never heard from the rep. I contacted him again only to hear his apologies stating the warehouse guys are extremely busy but that the item would be available for Monday.

Monday, I call the rep to confirm the item is available but by now I'm frustrated with them so I ask him to ship it. The rep agrees to ship the product and keep in mind that I'm am local to their location so the replacement part should arrive no later than 2-3 days.

Five days go by and no part, it's another Friday. I contact the rep after waiting 5 days for nothing. He again apologies and states that he will have the part waiting today (Friday) for my pickup.

Later in the day, I get a phone call from the OnTheEdgeMarketing rep stating that his manager will NOT honor the warranty. And that, if I want the replacement part I need to buy it for a discounted $50.00.

They suck, don't buy anything from this company. Their products look cool but are cheaply made and the company does not stand behind their products. They lie.

(also the broken area clealy showed rust stains underneath the paint)

This is a high quality faucet set. The shipping weight of over 11 pounds tells you something about the heft and feel of it. The pinkish color shown is misleading as the unit is more of a beige or tan than pink, although this worked to our advantage.(Even in the pictures we took, the color came out pinkish). My one word of caution in the installation is that all three pieces have a large diameter brass stem that fastens the units to the sink with brass nuts. All three of my pieces wanted to cross-thread and I would suggest you are careful when threading these nuts on. There's a temptation (especially upside down and under the sink) to force these nuts but don't.When you remove the nut to install each unit screw it back on a few times to get the feel of it before you crawl under the sink. Extra work but the unit is well worth it, and my wife's happy!

This faucet looks very slick, was easy to install, and works well, but after using it for about 9 months metal starts to peel off from the handles.

Warranty is supposed to cover replacement parts, but I have not
been able to reach the warranty department yet and I do not look forward to spending Saturday afternoon replacing the handles.

For the price of this faucet I wouldexpect a product of better quality.

I will definitely not buy another product from Danze.

Hickory Hardware P814-W 1-1/2-Inch Midway Knob, White Review

NOTE: I had not installed these knobs when I wrote the review. I have since replaced them with the porcelain I initially wanted. These are similar to the new ones: Amerock BP725-30 Ceramic Knob White Porcelain, 1-5/16-Inch Diameter. Why did I make the change? Because I didn't like how the plastic ones looked. No more said since I wrote such nice comments. I'll just leave the rest of the review as is. The plastic knobs DO serve a good purpose of providing nice looks with affordability. Who could ask for more?It is AMAZING to me to find so many unlikely products for sale at Amazon (play on words intentional!). Six of these Hickory Hardware 1 1/2 inch white knobs are helping me in a project. I am reworking the aesthetics of the school library where I am the only librarian (translation: I am redecorating).

One thing has led to another this summer. I added color: turquoise, purple, lilac, magenta, chartreuse. These look so great, I began painting. The cabinets are a pale, dusty pink from being painted three summers ago, but that paint is now nicked (that's another story but not here). I removed the doors, took them home, and spray-painted each with one of the above named colors. Wow, eye popping! The cabinet itself I repainted a glossy white.

Next step: door knobs. Not one of the six doors had a knob, so I'm adding them--white plastic--inexpensive, but attractive. There's one serious problem: one door previously had a flat, through-the-door, keyed lock, which had been removed. Just a hole was left. OK, how does one attach a knob with no wood to put a screw through? I used two 1 inch flat washers--put one on both sides of the door, added a screw and nut, plus knob--and voila! The door is functional again without using fingernails to pry it open. Yay!

The cabinets are stunning decked out in their new finery!

I purchased these Muck boots in February of 2009.I assumed they were meant for work conditions since they are called "Chore".I am a landscaper and was transplanting some shrubs when the shank of the right boot split open.The boots are no longer waterproof.I cannot return them to Amazon because it has been longer than 30 days.The boots are supposed to have a one year warranty.I sent an e-mail to the company, they replied that I had to bring the boots back to the dealer...impossible!After getting the runaround, I finally got the number for the regional distributor of Muck boots.I talked to Kylie, a very nice person who told me under no circumstances could she exchange my boots.So basically the Muck boot company does not honor their warranty when you buy from an online store.I will never buy Muck boots again and nobody else should either.

I bought this for my 80 year-old mother, so she could sit while she does kitchen chores.

The stool is light-weight enough for her to move and provides a comfortable seat.

There are two drawbacks: the step part of the stool doesn't come out quite far enough, giving the feeling of instability. Also, I assumed the entire unit folded for storage, but this is not the case. Only the steps fold in.

Both of the above are minor drawbacks and I would recomend this item to anyone.

Unlike the other reviewer, our faucet arrived in perfect condition.The styling and function of the faucet are both excellent.The control to switch the water flow between the normal stream and the wider spray works very well (a real treat after our prior Moen faucet).The ball joint at the nozzle head allows you to easily aim the spray any direction you want without flexing the hose.I also like the angle of the water jets in the wide spray mode.They are slightly angled inward which greatly reduces splashing.The only issue we have had is with the white finish.Within the first week, a small part of the white finish chipped off where the spray head retracts into the faucet stem.I bought a small bottle of white porcelain touch-up paint which worked well and the chip is not noticeable.However, if one of the metal finishes would work in your kitchen, I would recommend you consider those over the white finish.
